I didn't even know it existed! I searched "connect your macbook laptop to a tv" and voila! I had the next day. Connection was easy and just for fun I put some music on my laptop to check the audio and video. No catch. And the price was perfect. I should mention that this adapter connects to Thunderbolt, a mini-USB connection, not the Displayport that many Windows laptops use. So be sure to ask what you need. I also don't think things would be any different if for some reason you wanted what you're streaming on your TV screen to be displayed on your laptop.
