I love my Surface Pro, but its main drawback is the lack of USB ports. Only one mouse or one external keyboard can be connected to a USB port, but not both at the same time. When I first saw this device I was so excited I thought I found the solution. When the package arrived I was dying to test it. I immediately noticed that the mouse and keyboard USB ports are difficult to plug into this dock (they fit easily into the Surface Pro with no issues), I had to push so hard I was afraid the USB ports would break would. Everything went well for the first hour. Every time I turn off and restart the Surface Pro, it only "remembers" what device was plugged into the bottom USB port, not the top one. I've tried everything, uninstalled/reinstalled all drivers, connected/disconnected the docking station. After 7 attempts I had enough; partly because plugging a USB into this dock is very difficult and I don't want to damage the USB. I mean this device is around $30 and my ergonomic keyboard is way more. Damaging the USB for the keyboard and rendering the whole thing unusable just doesn't seem like a good idea. I'm disappointed that this device didn't work - in theory it sounded like a good idea. Maybe I just caught a lemon, I need to keep looking for a good dock. Maybe I just have to bite the bullet and get an insanely expensive dock from Microsoft.
