These clips do exactly what you expect - they hold the lid on the case. This is our first snake owner and I was very concerned after reading many reports of young corn snakes escaping their enclosures but so far we have managed to keep the little escape artist at bay although she enjoys being on the ledge hanging around on top of her tank! My second issue was the ease of use as my ten year old is a snake owner but can put them on and take them off without help. The clamps loosen with use but are easy to change. The clips hold the lid very tight and although I can lift it around the corners I have to use enough force and I highly doubt the little corn can lift it enough to detach. . In the photo I took to illustrate the gap I raised as much as possible. If you're concerned about possible escape, extra clips on either side of the corners will solve the problem, but I really think four clips per cage is enough.
