Review on πŸ”’ Easy and Secure Keyless Entry: Hugolog Electronic Keypad Deadbolt Lock with Auto-Lock and Battery Backup by Michael Robinson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good enough if you know what you're doing. (manual and guide below)

TL;DR change master code: β˜…β˜… + enter current master code (default 12345678) + # + 1 + enter new master PIN + # + retype (to verify) + #. The LED below the keyboard should blink green throughout the process. If it flashes red, you may have entered something incorrectly. The instructions are listed here. My opinion is below. For starters, the full installation guide: https://www.hugolog.com/pages/ju01-installation-manual You can find the full installation guide by searching the internet for "JU01 Installation manual”. (Google renders the page correctly. Duckduckgo, Yahoo, Bing does not.) But just in case the link gets removed/unavailable for some reason, I'm copying it into this review below: Here are 8 keyboard-programmable settings. These are : 1: change master code (enter current PIN code, 2: add user code, 3: delete user code, 4: switch on beep (1=on, 2=off) 5: switch on automatic lock (1=on, 2=off) 6: holiday mode (# to activate. To deactivate simply enter the master code.) 7: One-time PIN (enter PIN + #, confirm by repeating) 8: Automatic lock delay (min. = 10, max = 99s) 9: nothing β˜…: nothing 0: nothing #: nothing The basic format for setting is as follows: β˜… β˜… (then) master code (then) select the parameter to change (1-9 I think) (then) set the value of the parameter (then it should be twice beep and flash green to indicate correct setting. If it's "long beeps" with a red indicator under the keyboard, you've done something wrong.) To access Settings, first press: β˜…β˜…, then simply select the setting you want to change. (Settings 1-8 above) My Opinion: This product needs to be repaired. Technically it works, but there are disadvantages. β€’ I did not receive the complete manual. At the bottom of the box there are some basic instructions: setting the master code, setting the user code and deleting the user code β€’ Without mentioning the main functions. Nothing in the instructions mentions the other 4 features which are literal selling points. (Auto-lock, vacation mode, disposable pins, silent mode.) β€’ Motor and spindle shaft. There was a problem with this lock: when the bolt was not fully extended (e.g. when the door was not fully closed), the internal latch was still attached to the motor and gear. This will likely break a tooth in the final stage reduction gear. Plus, it's only an inch away from hot outside weather, so the gears go soft. Which, by the way, feels soft, like plastic. Maybe plastic shouldn't be used in locking mechanisms. However, this only happens if the motor cannot fully extend the bolt when it is closed. Otherwise the gear will disengage when fully extended or fully retracted, which is good β€’ Plastic body. The case is made of plastic and looks a bit cheap. I could probably smash the external keyboard's plastic casing and just twist the cam slot to disengage the latch and open the door. Why doesn't that plastic keyboard have a metal plate behind it for someone to stick a screwdriver in the cam slot and hack? My Kwikset lock has a metal body with a metal latch. β€’ I wish there was a needle, paperclip or something else in the kit. I didn't have it because my stationery was still in the boxes. I ended up with a twist tie. β€’ I want β˜… and # to be replaced with specific names, such as "Configure" (β˜…) or "Enter/Confirm" (#). What is that? Payphone from the 90s? Do I call an operator to open the door? β€’ I really like the prefix/suffix feature for fake PIN codes. This should be present in every electronic lock. β€’ I really like the USB emergency power connection on the underside of the keyboard. That calms me down a lot. β€’ Installation was relatively easy. But I've installed it before, so I already know what to expect. I don't expect my wife to be easy on this as she is not very good with hardware. But she will make it. I want to like this lock, but these are serious problems that other brands of locks don't have. Even if this were used for inexpensive security locks like a cupboard or similar, I still would NOT recommend this particular model.
