Review on ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Inkbird ITC-106RL - Programmable PID Temperature Controller with Relay Output for AC DC 12-24V, Fahrenheit and Celsius Display by Billy Stull

Works great for 12V fan control for BBQ PID controller without using the relay

I wanted to build a BBQ PID controller for my Weber Summit charcoal grill. I've had a hard time finding a decent DC relay. I stumbled across this PID and found that it has a built in relay (12 volt output) which completely eliminates the need for a relay. I bought a 12v power supply here at Revain as well as a 12v DC fan. I went to the Big Box store to find a combination of plumbing and electrical parts to direct air into the summit firebox (which already has a small PID hole). I installed the PID, power supply, and DC/DC buck converter in a small ammo box (upgraded from the clear plastic box in the first photos. On the advice of some other buyers, I installed a small flyback diode on a Sparkfun 12V). . Fan to avoid voltage spikes on the internal PID relay (may be unnecessary if you have a brushless DC fan). The block works great. I use the "Snake Method" for my charcoal on Weber Peak. I originally ran the fan with a 12v PID relay but this created too much airflow and my temp was over the limit and ash was flying around the kettle. I have not been able to get the rheostat to work with this fan. I ended up installing a DC-DC buck converter. It has a small adjustment screw and I lowered the output voltage to the fan to 6.5V. This gave me good fan speed and the fan starts up with no issues.
