After receiving the kit it is clear that this is a cheap fake of a genuine Ectotec control kit, with redesigned components to reduce the amount of material and use cheaper materials. Copying the factory design directly would have given more confidence. As this is a high mileage car I was hoping these new parts would give it a few more years on the road. Installed in June, engine died in October. The long black plastic guide has broken into 3 pieces and you can see the chain hitting other nearby components. Piston #1 is no longer connected to the crank, but it's not yet clear which components killed the others.
