Review on Lisle 63250 Range Filter Wrench by Mark Meyer

Great little tool, look out for the spring

This is an excellent tool for removing a stuck oil filter. It's basically a set of jaws that clamp onto the oil filter, and using a 3/8 pry bar or ratchet makes it easier to unscrew the filter than by hand. It is only used for removing, do not try to use it to install. The only complaint I had was the spring that came with the tool to keep the jaws closed. The spring came loose when I opened and closed the tool to test it, nearly gouging my eye out. I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but after playing around with the quill I gave up. I ended up replacing it with a pair of key hooks and some rubber bands. I added enough ribbons to hold the tension well and eliminate the risk of the springs coming out. I will upload a picture of what I did. Just a note: this will fit larger oil filters. There is a smaller filter key that works with standard auto filters. I would suggest taking both and replacing the spring on both. Both work great and don't slip. Saves time and effort.

Pros
  • Due to its large range this wrench will fit most standard size filters.
Cons
  • Update Availability
