Designed to loosen, not tighten

This wrench is great for loosening, but while it seems like a slightly different design would also allow this tool to be tightened, in this case it doesn't. This disadvantage is not important for oil filter work as not much torque is required to reinstall the filter. However, if you are going to use the tool for another application, be aware that you will no longer be able to use this tool after removing it to install. This came as a surprise to me as it is not clear from the product…

Pros
  • Fits 3 1/8" to 3 7/8" filters.
Cons
  • Almost OK

save the day in oil filter wrench

Stuck filter on 2002 Silverado 2500 HD. Filter in a very narrow spot with very little access. I've tried everything else but the lack of access and sharing didn't help. I ended up buying and using it. First I used needle nose pliers to twist the ends of the spring to keep it from loosening, that seems to have helped. It took me a few minutes to install the filter tool due to the limited access to the filter, but I put it on and the spring held it in place. I then tried using an impact wrench…

Pros
  • Steel jaws grip the filter without slipping.
Cons
  • Weight

Great little tool, look out for the spring

This is an excellent tool for removing a stuck oil filter. It's basically a set of jaws that clamp onto the oil filter, and using a 3/8 pry bar or ratchet makes it easier to unscrew the filter than by hand. It is only used for removing, do not try to use it to install. The only complaint I had was the spring that came with the tool to keep the jaws closed. The spring came loose when I opened and closed the tool to test it, nearly gouging my eye out. I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but

Pros
  • Due to its large range this wrench will fit most standard size filters.
Cons
  • Update Availability

Nice tool for the price!

After struggling with my truck's last oil change in cold weather, I found this tool before I completely broke my arms! Those who own an F150 with a 5.4 Triton 3v will know where this oil filter lives, which is difficult to remove with a regular strap wrench. I can reach my hand out there, but trying to grab it with my hand and twist it gets harder every time I have to. I looked at several pieces of this type and for the price decided this is the hottest install. He arrived and upon inspection…

Pros
  • This tool is for removing the filter, not for installing it.
Cons
  • unreliable

Large Oil Filter Wrench

I bought this wrench and a similar wrench for Lisle Import Oil Filters (for smaller filters). I can report that they are both well made and both very good work well at removing stuck oil filters if you only have the "end view" of the filter. threw my "three finger" wrenches (which have almost no grip) in the bin after using this wrench for the first time. 2 ) Jaws are spring loaded which keeps the wrench on the filter until you get in position to turn the ratchet Nice feature 3) The harder you…

Pros
  • Used with 3/8" drive
Cons
  • Some small things
