Review on πŸ”’ PROGRIP 314700 Heavy Duty Tie Down Ratchet and Sliding Buckle with Double J Hooks: Enhanced Flex Grip Handle, 16ft x 1-inch by Jeremiah Small

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Perfect for little hands, knuckles!

I am a woman living on a farm. My life is held together by bungee cords, bale cords, and zip ties like that. Unfortunately, as I got older I found the triggers on standard bindings so difficult to use that I mostly had to use large pliers to unlock the ratchet. When this sample arrived I couldn't wait to tear open the packaging and try the trigger. What a joy! What a treat! My little, aging, girly fingers opened, closed, opened, closed, opened with no problem. Well, you understand, I'm sure. My male partner lost interest in my fun after about seven clicks on the demo. My four star rating reflects no problem, just the fact that it will take months for the device to withstand heavy use. That would definitely give it a five star rating. The electric green handle and matching trigger are soft and easy to use, and I suspect they don't rust as easily as the solid metal handles on standard ratchets. If I had a pair of these I would moor my boat outside instead of sitting here writing this review. The nylon webbing appears to be of high quality. No rough edges to snag and wear off which is a major downside for these things. I look forward to knitting all kinds of things and I can guarantee I will buy multiple packs once this one is as easy to maintain as it is convenient to use. I haven't tested it, but I'm hoping the company will also make wider, stronger pieces so all my farming equipment can be tarpaulin covered in style. . Unfortunately I made the big mistake of using it more than once by twisting the strap in the ratchet and trying to take it apart and put it back together. Don't try this at home. There are no instructions anywhere, including eHow and the manufacturer's website, on how to rethread the belt through the mechanism. I've never seen a mount that didn't have a fixed end and a moving end. With just one strap and hooks at each end, threading becomes a nightmare. Now I have a ratchet and a belt. I use a strap to tie things together. I use a ratchet for nothing. I referred the whole thing to friends who are experienced mechanics and ratchet users and none of them had better luck than me. I'm taking off two stars because while the strap is very good and a good length to tie, it's not what I'd hope for in a ratchet binding. If you can find out, then the first part of this review still stands. The mechanism is smooth, the handle is easy to use, and the unlocking is convenient. Also, I cannot recommend this product.
