Review on πŸ” Unraveling the Power of the Genuine Ford F4TZ-12K073-C Camshaft Position Sensor by Carl Givens

If your current CPS is gray or black, you should consider replacing it with this

The original CPS for 7.3L was black. This black version was great, but then they all started to fail. If they fail, the truck's engine will stall and not start. Gray CPS recalls are very common as most of these trucks received an updated gray version as part of the recall. (Free at retailers) Gray CPS are very reliable. However, the engine runs much rougher on the gray CPS than on the original black version. There are sites on the internet that show scan results comparing two CPSs. The solution to this problem was Navy Blue/Grey (F4TZ-12K073-C). My roommate and I both have 7.3 liter Powerstroke engines and have both noticed a dramatic difference in idle and overall engine smoothness after replacing our gray recall CPS with these new improved dark blue/black units. **IMPORTANT** Spray penetrating oil on the bolt head and leave for a few hours before attempting to remove the old CPS. These bolts tend to get stuck in the cylinder block. If you tear or break the head from the bolt, you will need to pull out the front grille and radiator and tap the block to install the new bolt. Use ONLY a hex screwdriver to remove the screw. You will also likely need a jumper. Be careful. DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREW HEAD!
