Strap on thermometer not accurate
I wanted to monitor the temperature on some pipes in my boiler system. They looked like easy, quick-attach means of doing this. When connected to various pipes of different diameters, the temperature never exceeded 100 degrees Fahrenheit while the system was 170 degrees. Desperate, I sat face up in the boiling water, just enough to touch the brass sensor. It rose to 140 degrees, not 212 degrees, the boiling point of water. I emailed the manufacturer and contacted Revain. I have to wonder if these devices have ever been calibrated or quality checked.
