Holds ice for 36+ hours - 40 oz version

I love this water bottle! He's with me everywhere - I'm always near ice water. Filling the bottle to the brim with ice and adding water will keep the water cold for at least 36 hours. In a 40-ounce bottle, ice melts at a rate of about 1/3 every 12 hours. I rarely use a steel lid, but a couple of times it works fine. A sports hat with a flip-up straw works great! It doesn't leak. I tested this when I first got the bottle by filling it with ice and water, then putting it on the bed next to me and letting it sit for an hour. The sports lid is not insulated as well as a steel lid, so condensation forms on the lid. But the bottle didn't leak. It was, of course, through the straw. Even if the straw is open and the bottle tips over, it usually doesn't leak. This is because the air hole is blocked by water, preventing water from leaking out of the straw. The only downside to the 40 ounce bottle is that it doesn't fit in the cup holder on my Chevy Malibu or my Veracruz. However, I simply placed the bottle on the passenger seat. A small amount of condensation may form on the lid after a 40 minute drive, but I also live in an area with >80% humidity. I took the risk that the bottle might not fit in the cup holder - the 40 ounce capacity is worth it. If required, it can simply be placed on the top of the cup holder / center console. I bought 18 ounce bottles for each of my kids to carry around. One of my sons only drinks water when it's freezing cold. The water in the other cups he used only stayed cold for about 3 hours. He is 5 years old and drinks water all day. He loves that he can drink ice water all day and doesn't have to wait for me to add ice during the day. The 18 ounce bottles and another 22 ounce bottle I bought fit easily in cup holders and are easier for kids to handle. In total we bought 5 of these - 40oz, 3 for 18oz and 1 for 22oz. Super happy; worth every penny; I love the finish on the bottle. I recommend silicone case. This protects against falls that have never happened before. but if three children carry them, they will jump.
