Review on ⚙️ Jagwire Pro Disc Brake Bleed Kit: DOT and Mineral Oil Options, Compatible with SRAM, Shimano, Avid, Hayes, Magura, and More by Adam Nelson

Good for MTB, crucial for Shimano Road Disc.

It's 2016 (at the time of this review) and almost all my bikes have hydraulic disc brakes now. The XT brakes on my MTB were always fairly easy to bleed with a Shimano system (cup, tube, bag) or a cheaper syringe. but my street rims were trickier. With Jagwire, I can bleed any bike (front and rear) in ten minutes. I borrowed this method from the chief mechanic at the shop I ride where you use a cup and one of the Jagwire rigs on the caliper. This way it's very easy to get all the air out of the line and bleed the RS-685 arms (to be honest you never get fully deflated as the piston slowly lets air in). with time). Shimano road brakes seem to be more important than XT brakes, I don't quite understand why but I've heard that from a few people in the shops. Either way, if you're a home mechanic and want to keep your bikes in tip-top shape, you won't find a better tool. If you ever feel like your brakes are losing "stiffness” (as Shimano's manual calls it), Jagwire makes re-bleeding a simple but methodical process. You can even avoid the phrase "quickly open and close the exhaust valve and squeeze the lever" in the Shimano repair guide (that works but is very shaky). Pro tip: If you can keep it clean (and you can with a Jagwire syringe), avoid the yellow rappel blocks for the most "stiffness" on the road levers. Just leave the pads and the wheel. You have to be careful not to drip oil on the rotors (you'll need to clean both the rotors and the pads to do this), but this will leave a little more liquid behind. The bleeders are too big for the brakes to work properly (never had a problem with the two sets of Shimano MTB brakes I've had). Also: Use gloves, isopropyl alcohol, and plenty of mineral oil.
