Let me start by saying that I had no intention of using the charge controller supplied, I already had a good controller which was saved from upgrading to another implementation that I was planning to use . But this kit was cheaper than similar panels offered without a controller and I figured I could use the included controller for other implementations. In any case, the controller smoked when I first plugged it in to test it and seemed to lose some functionality, but still charged the battery. Today I connected it to my Sunsaver controller and it wasn't charging. I unplugged the panel and checked the panel output and noticed that the power from the panel is reversed, the red wire is - and the black wire is +. I changed the ports on the controller and now it's charging. Otherwise the panel is a good buy, producing a constant 21+ volts with no load. I'll have to see how it performs over time, but I'm very happy with it for now and would recommend it if you don't depend on an included controller. a week of dry camping to power the battery in my truck while parked at the campsite. Not only did it keep the fridge running, but it also fully charged the battery. The panel still works like new. With actual use of just over 4-6 months, the fabrics will show serious signs of UV damage. The most noticeable thing is that the edging of the edge is fraying a bit. One of the D-rings broke off due to UV damage to the fabric loop it was sewn into. I continue to use it but am reducing my rating to 3 stars. I think I will replace it soon.
