I made the mistake of buying a brand new lightweight tarp to cover my woodpile - the wind and the sharp edges of the wood blew holes in it in just a few weeks. I came across these repair/reinforcement patches, and while $10 patches might not make sense to salvage a damaged $13 tarp, I decided to give it a try. These patches are very durable. Their primary purpose is to reinforce areas of the tarp that you would expect to see heavy wear and tear, and they definitely will. They also offer them for repairs, which is my claim, and they work great for that too. Simply cut (if necessary), peel and stick. It should be remembered that the glue is VERY strong and will stick together instantly. I accidentally gently touched the sticky side of the patch with a clean area of the tarp, and when I instinctively pulled it back, it took the surface of the tarp with it, leaving a new hole for me to patch. I cut the patches to size. I needed various holes and pretty much renovated the entire tarpaulin. Even with careful cutting I ran out of patches so I patched the small holes with some tape. These patches do exactly what they were designed to do and do it well. I wish they would offer more for the price. And while I'm willing to do that, a variety of shapes would be nice too. In any case, the patches are now the strongest part of the tarp.
