I read the reviews before ordering and someone said they advertise these chisels as Marples but when they arrive they are actually Irwin stamped on the handles. As they were bought and shipped from the UK I thought I'd take the risk anyway and sure enough, the pens say Irwin. I could find the same Irwin chisels for about $20 less; I'll just suck it up and leave her. They are solid chisels for what I need them for. I am a trained carpenter; I will use them to clean the grooves and remove bits of wood and glue; they will be fine for that. Unlike most reviewers of these chisels, I have no plans to carve a 3D replica of Mount Rushmore, nor do I plan to measure the sharpness of the blade with a positron microscope. If you're looking to do this, you should probably be looking at $500 chisels instead of $80 chisels. It's sad that when one company buys another, they have to replace what isn't broken. When I went to luthier school the Marples chisels were the ones the teachers bought us, I guess because they were good chisels; Unfortunately, everything is made in China these days and the quality supposedly suffers as a result. So in general if you're like me and want a chisel set that's a few steps up from the $20 set. They will definitely satisfy your needs. They are conveniently delivered in a beautiful box. I know the chest must be hand carved from dovetail teak. OK . My box suits my needs.
