Dimensions! Best in Substance Analysis Instrument

The length of the hydrometer is about 10 3/4 inches, and the widest part of the hydrometer is about 0.6 inches (the circumference was 2 inches). You'll probably need at least a 12-inch vial. It's weighted with lead shot held down by something like rubber. It will test all beers and wines and show the normal ranges for each (normal wine specific gravity, dessert wine, beer and their respective specific gravity) on paper in the test tube. colored paper in the tube, you still need to look very closely at the markings to determine the exact gravity readings so that its color doesn't affect anything other than cosmetics. I didn't really care because I got one with colored markings. I ordered it on March 4th, 2014. Of course, you should check with distilled water to see if there's a malfunction, which I haven't done yet, and apply that to your readings. Make sure the temperature you are taking the reading at is corrected using the online gravity correction calculator. I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I haven't tested it yet, but it looks good! Update: March 15, 2014: I tested it in a 12 inch test jar of distilled water and even at the right temperature it was about 0.002 degrees higher than it should. However, it's okay! In any case, I wanted to take the OG of my brew water (with minerals like gypsum in it) and use that to measure my SG when I finally add it to the primary water. Increasing the star count to 5 because that's everything I've come to expect from a hydrometer, even with a tiny SMALL flaw.
