Review on RAM Mounting RAM B 166 GA9U Navigator Streetpilot by Angie Wooten

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for my car mount needs

If you still have a Garmin 2xx0 series (like me even if you don't have lifetime maps) and need/want something better than Rattle dash mount then this is probably the product for She. I say probably because while it's perfect for my/our needs, it probably won't be perfect for everyone. The dashboard in our XC90 is crooked and a bit slippery. It's not the best combo for the dash rattle mount that came with our 2730. If you make a left turn very quickly, the 2730 and rattle mount will land on the passenger's lap or on the floor. This even happens with my Saab 9-3, although with the more "cockpit" 9-3 I can usually just reach out and stop it from skidding (which isn't the best thing to do in a corner). So I bought one of these. A more "fragile" version of this mount is also currently for sale at Revain. After reading some reviews I figured it was worth spending another $10 or so to make sure this thing isn't going anywhere. And she's not going anywhere any time soon. This thing is like a tank. Once locked in any position, it will be solid. And the suction cup is stronger than I've ever seen on a windshield mount. As I mentioned, this product is perfect for our XC90/Garmin 2730 station wagon-like vehicle (if you can easily touch the windshield from the driver's seat) in California. Why? If you have a GPS mounted on your windshield, it should technically (legally) be located in the lower left corner of your windshield. And frankly, this mount is just too big for it. That would be nice for the center of the windshield, but it sticks out too much. Luckily I have a 775t for my 9-3 that fits either there or just under the rear view mirror. In short, this is a great and reliable product for us. Sooooo nice to be able to press a button (physical and on screen) without moving the device.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Vulgarity
