Appears It may appear to be a real filter from the packaging, but the construction of the outer "casing" is quite cheap. The filter material itself seems fine. The velcro that holds the pre-filter in place is very weak and will likely be damaged when attempting to replace the pre-filter. The supplied pre-filter is very fine and rather spongy than the heavier and coarser carbon filter. . Pretty unsatisfactory for almost $40. I think if this thing dies I'll just attach the MERV13 furnace filter duct to the box fan. 3 stars because the previous filter looked significantly darker which means it actually does something and the device seems to be removing dog odor from my bedroom.
