Low cost, disappointing quality.

Appears It may appear to be a real filter from the packaging, but the construction of the outer "casing" is quite cheap. The filter material itself seems fine. The velcro that holds the pre-filter in place is very weak and will likely be damaged when attempting to replace the pre-filter. The supplied pre-filter is very fine and rather spongy than the heavier and coarser carbon filter. . Pretty unsatisfactory for almost $40. I think if this thing dies I'll just attach the MERV13 furnace filter…

Works well - surprised how much the initial stage/layer collects. Great Value!

Appears to work as advertised. It has two layers to filter. The removable top layer is something like a green dish sponge that attaches with small Velcro straps. This part can be easily removed/reinstalled and can be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Conveniently, this first layer prevents large particles from quickly and unnecessarily clogging the primary filter component, greatly extending filter life. No more confusion this is the exact same anti germ filter I bought from a local big box store a few months ago

This filter seems to have several suppliers. I have bought this filter 3 (?) times and the first time was great. The second seemed to take on a burning smell after a few months so I replaced it. The new one I received continued to give off a burning smell. It started to scare me so much that I contacted GermGuardian and they sent me a new unit under warranty.
