Eh. In the end I broke down and bought it. Unfortunately I ordered it just before I stuck the mod on my nails out of desperation. It worked wonderfully! You may not be able to pull it all off in one piece, but who cares? I received the latex the next day. It protects your skin, yes. But it also starts peeling off before you're even done with your nails. Tried the whole arm, no lotion or anything weird that would come off before I was ready. One actually stuck to the sponge I was using and came off immediately. So if you insist (again, why?) that the barrier separates as one, go for it! Otherwise, I highly recommend using Mod Podge or Elmer Glue, they work just as well if not better than these. And it's a lot cheaper.
