Review on πŸ’₯ ASRock X570 Extreme4: High-Performance AM4 Motherboard with HDMI, M.2, and USB3.2 by Peter Sullivan

Not ready for prime time

I've been building PCs since Windows 98 came out, so I'm not a noob here. I even build AMD and Intel systems with old Slot A, the very first 1GHz processor on an old Epox MB, so I'm no stranger to tweaking bios. But this Asrock board is buggy than a June bug truck. Custom voltage settings are not saved correctly even with the latest BIOS 2.2. The numeric indicator on the keypad is lit when the system is off. Oh, and don't enable deep sleep on the S5, or you'll have to turn it off at shutdown for it to boot up. Memory support is a joke when a Samsung B-Die board can't even recognize the basic memory settings programmed into the SPD, leaving you running like a snail. Oh, and Asrock armor. Let's break this down by taking a close look at the large part that sits above the chipset fan. It's a huge heatsink covering the chipset fan and all M.2 slots, held in place by three screws. The problem is that EVERY dual slot graphics card covers the heatsink for the M.2 slots, which means you have to remove your graphics card if you want quick access to the M.2 slot. And then their chipset fan itself is a crappy, cheap and noisy fan that is useless for cooling at 65 degrees+. And finally, this is the fan control for the processor. A Noctua high performance industrial fan that I had on a liquid processor cooler blew out on this board. It wasn't a cheap fan, I've used about a dozen Asrock boards, but this one RUN, run away, look elsewhere.
