Review on 🐠 Penn Plax PEN-019 Air Pod Aquarium Air Pump - Power Outage Auto On, Ensures Fish Safety, 55 Gallon Capacity by Amanda Thibault

Revainrating 5 out of 5

has good airflow to date

At the time of writing I have owned one of these air pumps for about five years. It works for me 24 hours a day, doesn't give me any serious problems, to date it has good airflow and I like it. I bought it from another site but since I like it so much I decided to write about it on Revain. Advantages: - It has two air outlets and is very powerful. Good enough to power multiple aero bricks or sponge filters in multiple tanks if using a group valve or simply using multiple hoses and air line manifolds. I use a 3 way air tee and connect both air outlets to one outlet and then connect it to a 4 way compound valve for even more customization. You can adjust the airflow with the knob. When you set it to maximum it is more than enough for my 60 gallon aquarium with two foam filters, my 5 gallon battle tank with a sponge filter and my 5 gallon shrimp tank with two sponge filters. I use a group valve to provide most of the 60 gallon air pressure and all my aquatic pets seem to appreciate its powerful airflow. It looks well built and makes moderate noise. And as the saying goes, if the power goes out, this thing will continue to work if the batteries in it are good. The battery charge is sufficient, but you will notice a slight reduction in airflow. If the power goes out, there is no delay, it just keeps going. When the power returns, the system switches back to power invisibly. Different color indicators on the device indicate whether it is running on electricity or battery. The Bad: - It's quite large, but most of the space is taken up by the four D batteries that this thing needs. - Sliding cover that houses the battery. The compartment doesn't seem that strong. It's not broken or too weak, but I wouldn't put anything heavy on it. I've found that if this thing starts making excessive noise it's because the lid is a little loose or maybe the batteries inside have been vibrated to a 'louder' position. It doesn't happen often, maybe once every two months? A simple adjustment by closing the lid or moving the batteries eliminates the problem. Over time, the engine makes more noise. I've found that if you put something like a small aquarium enholinator bottle on top of it, it somehow absorbs some of the vibration and produces quieter operation. Verdict: - Buy it if you need a powerful battery powered air pump for your aquariums. I wouldn't recommend this if you have a small tank (less than 10 gallons) as it would be overkill, but if you have a large tank (20+) or multiple tanks this one has served me well. I understand that other people may have different experiences with this but I consider myself an experienced fish farmer and this is one of the best air pumps I have used for the reasons stated.
