Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Nintendo Wii U Console - 32GB Black Deluxe Set: Explore Ultimate Gaming Experience by Jason Rawls

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Arrived behind the parental controls, constant problems connecting the gamepad. What a disappointment.

Comes with a child lock PIN that prevents me from doing anything. I've been lucky enough to find a utility that lets you figure out the master code to get around this, but most have failed. The system wasn't formatted and had random data from a previous user - normally you would expect these things to be erased. The Game Bar, which is supposed to run at 26 feet in average conditions and reviews say it's up to 80-100 in ideal conditions, shuts off if it's more than 3 feet away. Attempting to play from my bed, literally 6ft from the console, is impossible as the gamepad keeps shutting down and interrupting error messages. There is a "GameStop Restored" sticker on the back of the controller. They haven't done a very good job - and coincidentally, as someone who has worked at GameStop for the past 4 years, I can attest to their "refurbished" hardware being constantly returned due to problems. The unit was listed as used in good condition - while I'm sure this isn't against any rules, I don't expect it to mean the unit was faulty and repaired by a third party. If it was broken and fixed by someone other than the manufacturer, it would be nice if it showed up on the list; Usage is one thing, that's fine, but fixed by a random GameStop tech because it stopped working is a bit more than that. I'm still not sure what to do with it, I like gaming and have wanted it for a long time, but it requires me to sit on the floor right in front of my TV unless I'm playing with a controller other than a gamepad, which defeats the whole purpose of a system. So yeah, I haven't decided yet whether to return it or try to replace the gamepad myself, but I'll likely have to return the whole thing, meaning I'll experience the joy of shipping it back while I wait issue a refund, find another device to purchase and wait for it to arrive. I can't imagine the seller having checked this beforehand as simply turning it on would show it's blocked by parental controls and the gamepad has serious problems. Or, if it was tested, it was sold knowing there were serious problems without saying so. I suspect doubt and assume they just sold it without checking which is the lesser of two evils but still a huge disappointment. I just wanted to play Zelda, man. It shouldn't be that hard. Edit: It's been a while but I'd like to add that I bought and installed a new wireless/bluetooth controller replacement for the gamepad. The average person should be able to do this if they take the time and follow the instructions - this also requires a special tool, but it only costs a few dollars. After that I can now play through the whole house, that was intended. So now it works great, but only after I bought additional hardware and did the repairs myself. The original review still stands - it arrived in poor condition and wasn't of the quality you expected - but if you put in a little effort and some extra cash, you can at least fix your gamepad problems.
