I haven't had this mirror for long. You always had to be very careful when changing batteries because you have to rotate and lift the magnifying mirror to insert the batteries. This time I just flipped the mirror from the magnification side to the normal side and it turned off. and the magnifying mirror side just fell out. There is no good locking mechanism that will prevent the same type of accident. Broken glass in my bathroom was definitely not appreciated. (The little red arrows point to the mechanism to keep the mirror from falling.) Just bad design.
