I did some research on this product before purchasing and all the reviews said it uses slotted staples to work properly. I have purchased crown braces and this tool has worked fantastic. I had no problems with freezes, everything worked every time. It's relatively easy to use and I'm so glad I didn't try using a hand stapler instead. A great tool for roofing work.
