When I first started drinking better wine and listening to music that wasn't from a portable radio or car, my older and wiser brother gave me some advice - if you can't tell the difference or hear the difference why pay more just to say you bought 'better'. I've since learned to enjoy more delicious wine, but still only buy what I like. The same applies to this purchase. All I wanted was an FM receiver that I could put in the middle of my apartment, turn on in the morning and have "good" sound no matter what room I was in, not silence and breaking news when that happened . . I was able to tune in to my favorite FM station by fully extending the attached antenna. I turned the bass up and down and then turned it up to medium high - no distortion - clean sound. The only "downside" is that the speaker wires are very short - they still fit me as the space I used was quite large, and the other downside is that it only takes 1 CD - which one can expect for such a price. I rarely use the CD player anyway as the FM station I get plays a selection of songs I like. Well for the price I think it's a great setup and I enjoy the sound - if you can hear the violins against the orchestra, very subtle sounds pay extra for the Boise - otherwise buy and enjoy.
