The lid isn't hard plastic, it's hard, leather-like and squeezes when you squeeze hard, so the body isn't indestructible. The fit is a little tight to zip up with the charger and it's such a hassle to get the 3DS XL out of the straps so I just put my DS on the straps as the case is snug enough in my bag. I'm sure the straps would have been put to better use without my DS case. Consider cutting them up and attaching the Velcro straps yourself. Plus it's freaking adorable and I love it to death.
