Did I have to spend $60 to get the Kuat bike rack on the ground? no He was standing alone against the wall. However, this little device feels like it's tucked away right where it's supposed to be. I almost went for the cheaper option but some reviews complained about the thin metal and the flex of the products so I decided to buy the Rack Stash for a few bucks more and it was well worth it. There is no chance of it bending under the weight of my 3 bike rack. Very solidly built. It is easy to insert a rack into it. Three large screws attach it securely to the wall. Additional storage space for your trailer hitch. Small, simple, relatively inexpensive (compared to the cost of your rack) - what more could you ask for? Note. You can mount it directly into a 2" rack, but I had to move my 3" rack into the rack. just to clear the garage door and that is the only reason i added the unnecessary 4 x 4 inch post you see in the picture. The strength would be good if I just attached it to the 2 x 4 inch stud.
