We have too many knives and the knife holders are too unsightly on the counter. We need something to keep our knives neatly out of sight and provide adequate security when accessing the knives. Pros: - All knives fit in the slot, even my 10" Santoku and chef's knife, with plenty of room. - All steak knives and small knives (peelers, utility knives, etc.) have smaller slots. The slot width is ideal for most blades. - The wood is soft enough to prevent the edge from dulling or breaking too quickly like similar non-wood knives I use steel before each use and always keep my blades razor sharp This block reduces the time it takes me to cut re-sharpening my blades due to poor storage Cons: - slot width does not support cleavers Yes I have cleavers that I have to make my own knife holders in the same drawer. The slots on the edges have no side stops for larger, heavier blades. Place all of the larger, heavier blades closer to the center slots and the smaller, lighter blades to the edge slots. Overall I like the block Went and bought 2 more to store my other knives after the first served us well as we gathered our family in a very crowded ach kitchen.
