Schlage was intended to replace an existing bathtub handle. This Schlage grip assembly easily matched the previous one. The emergency key pin was strong and easy to use, unlike the previous one that required a special right-angle key that was easy to bend and easily twist the soft metal inner grooves. and it is difficult to get a new key if lost or damaged. This slap is designed to be easily unlocked in an emergency; A straight solid wire can be used if the key is lost or misplaced. Makes a loud bang when unlocked. The same key pin is used to unlock the door handle, allowing it to be turned left or right. Although the assembly fitted easily into the existing door opening and cut outs for the door bezel and striker plate, in my case one modification was required. Typically when replacing door locks, I find that the hole in the strike plate is slightly offset so that the door does not latch in the strike plate. I had to file the bottom edge of the striker hole for the door to snap into place. Uses a dremel tool with a file. The problem stems from a previous installation where the striker plate was not properly centered or was barely removed. The hose could have enlarged the hole in the striker plate to accommodate previous installations. But I'm happy with Schlage. The conversion was necessary in my case due to the pre-assembly of the firing pin; such a problem may be common, but it is not due to Schlage.
