We ordered this cage to take care of our sons cockatiels for several months. The bird is very comfortable in the cage and feels very comfortable. The perch that comes with the kit is junk and should never be included in the cage. A wooden dowel is the worst place for a bird and can result in injury to the bird's paws. So throw them in a wood stove or fireplace. Buy natural perches for tree branches. The containers for food and water are plastic, but they are very easy to take out and put in the cage. The bird does not gnaw or peck, so everything is fine with them. I would have preferred stainless steel, but that's fine for a few months. I will be placing 1/8" Plexiglas on the food door and around the food bowl. We hope this keeps discarded food and chaff in the cage. Regarding ease of assembly, my 16 year old daughter put it all together with no help. Is that a good permanent cage? No, it just isn't strong enough or big enough. It's suitable as a guest cage for a bird no bigger than a cockatiel. If you're thinking of a kennel or larger, get a stronger cage. A few budgies or smaller birds will love this cage It comes with wheels but it is too low off the ground to use them The size and height of this cage makes wheels useless when you want to see and interact with your birds. To make the birds part of your family, plant them on a side table.
