Before that I had a pair of Dell 2005FPW/2007FPW S-IPS monitors because I do amateur photography and some design work. Color change and accuracy are more important to me than reaction, even though I sometimes play games. The Dell 2005 was dying and out of sync until it warmed up. So I started looking for a new monitor. This time I really wanted a 24" drive instead of a direct replacement for a 20.1". But I was concerned that e-IPS would be the best fit, but not someone who returns monitors often. I My 2007FPW works fine. but after 5 years, the CFL backlight can't reach the brightness level of 120 which I use when calibrating. Other than that, it works well and I'm happy with the Dell monitors. Another monitor will be replaced next year. but i'm not sure what size. After reading all the great reviews and some bad ones. I chose a Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24. My concerns were: > LED backlight is too blue > Coating is different/worse than I'm used to > Viewing angles are narrower than S-IPSI. today. IMPRESSIVE! I like the large screen area. The controls are easy to use and the on-screen icons make it easy to set up in the dark. Even before I calibrated it, I noticed a few things. good, and it didn't suffer from the intense blue casts that some of the early LED-backlit screens had, leading me to avoid them for years. I can see it just like on my previous two monitors, and then only on a white screen. I can't see it when working at my usual distance that my eyes are set to. (Just the distance I don't need glasses) I use Pantone i1Display to calibrate my monitors, it's calibrated perfectly and I love it, I wish the old monitor was that bright. but both now have color temperature and contrast calibrated so that they almost agree. As you can see, I gave it 5 stars. I round up > E-IPS vs. S-IPS side to side in landscape I see the same viewing angle. The bottom viewing angle is not that good. That's probably why I wouldn't run the II in portrait mode. But I didn't try. I will update the review when I do. > When calibrating the monitor, the contrast, brightness and RGB settings were a bit coarser than I would like. This means that while my eye couldn't detect any change in brightness or contrast, the calibration sensor jumped in perceived levels from just below ideal to just above ideal. But I found where I wanted the calibration curve to be as good as any monitor I've had. That's all for now. If you cannot handle the screen cover or sit at the correct distance from the screen to clean the screens. I understand why some might not like it. But I have a window and/or a TV behind me in the office. The anti-reflective coating is a godsend. I h
