Review on πŸ–₯️ Dell UltraSharp U2412: 24 Inch LED Lit Monitor with Stunning 1920X1200 Resolution, 60Hz Refresh Rate by Austin Surabhi

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor. I love the resolution, IPS panels, vivid colors and crisp text, but there's a subtle flaw

I bought this monitor after hearing positive feedback from several of my friends who have this monitor, as well as my own positive experience testing this monitor on their PC. First off, the rave reviews here and elsewhere on the internet confirmed the positive impressions I've had of this monitor so far. So my expectations were high. I'll start this review with a problem I had and end with the good stuff. Were it not for the shortcoming described below, I would give this monitor a solid 5 stars. I don't recall reading other reviews detailing the bug I'm about to describe, so thought it would be wise to mention it in case someone reading these reviews could spot it themselves . The monitor had a small blemish. Part of the right third of the screen was slightly darker than the rest of the screen. It looked like a very subtle shade of gray. It was likely uneven brightness/brightness distribution, possibly a backlight issue. I understand that some brightness/brightness non-uniformity is to be expected, but it should only be noticeable when testing/measuring with calibration software, not to the naked eye. The dark area of this monitor was visible to the naked eye. There was no way to solve the problem. This was most evident on a white background. I spend most of my time in Excel, Word etc which is why I always saw that slightly dimmed right 1/3 of the screen. I also use a real-time stock pricing system that has many charts with white backgrounds, so the charts on the right side of the screen always appeared a bit darker with that gray cast compared to the other charts. The problem was also noticeable with light colors. For example, if the screen were filled with light yellow or pink, the darker part of the monitor in the right third of the screen would add a slightly very subtle gray cast to the light yellow and pink colors. When the screen was filled with fluorescent green, the same part of the monitor that had the problem had a slightly darker and less bright fluorescent green. The problem wasn't as obvious with very dark colors or video, but colors were less vivid and saturated. However, I played a few videos with a white background and paused the image and when the image was paused you could see a dimmer on the right side of the screen even with the video. Aside from that issue, a somewhat very subtle part of the monitor dimming, the positives were all I've experienced testing on my friends and all the positives I've read in all of those reviews. But since I haven't read anything negative in these comments about the particular issue I was having, I figured that hopefully it was just a bug in that particular monitor that was shipped to me. So I sent the monitor back. I was willing to review this monitor again and just wanted to trade in a faulty monitor for the exact same model. Well, when I received the replacement monitor, I found that it had an uneven distribution of brightness on either side of the screen. Smaller on the right than the original monitor, but now the replacement on the left had the same issue. I decided the original looked better and decided to keep it and return a replacement. Now for the good. Were it not for the shortcoming just described, the following comments would have earned this monitor a solid 5 stars. I didn't do any image adjustments at all because everything looks perfect to me right away, at least to the naked eye. The colors are bright, saturated and natural. There is no greenish, bluish or any other color cast that some people seem to notice on their monitors (when using the default preset). The Film Mode setting gave the screen a bluish tint, while the Media Mode setting gave the screen a slightly yellowish tint. The text mode setting was too dark for my taste. Text is clear and sharp. I have no dead or stuck pixels. Backlight leaks are not visible to the naked eye. And there are no colored spots. I quickly decided that configuring the default mode settings worked best for me. I made absolutely no adjustments and even the video looks amazing in default mode. In fact, I prefer Standard mode videos to Cinema or Media modes. Unlike most reviewers who turn the brightness down to around 35, I'm the guy who likes a nice bright screen and finds the factory settings. The default level of 75 was just perfect for my eyes. Typical of most anti-glare monitors, the anti-glare hard coating does what it's supposed to do without sacrificing image quality. You can see the touch of the anti-glare coating on the screen's pure white background, but it's otherwise invisible. If, like me, you spend all day in Excel with a white background, you'll easily notice this if you look closely at the screen and think about it. But if you've used anti-glare monitors before, you won't recognize it or notice it. If you're currently using a glossy screen, you might be a little aware of this on a white background, but as we've said, it won't affect or affect the quality of your screen image. The stand is great. Very durable and offers a full range of height, tilt and pan adjustments. As mentioned before, I mainly use this monitor for business applications. If I were to use this for professional photography or video editing I would probably want to be sure I have the most accurate settings and I would calibrate the monitor or at least use one of the ICC profiles for that monitor on the web TFT Central website. . I checked the test images on the website lagom.nl/lcd-test/ and this monitor performed very well on most images. The only images that showed a possible adjustment was needed were the white saturation and gamma calibration images. But this Dell monitor came very close to those images right out of the box. Other test images showed that the monitor is very well positioned. But like I said, to my naked eye the colors look accurate and the picture is absolutely beautiful right out of the box! The photos I take come out true to color on the monitor and look the way they should. However, if you're a professional photographer, the higher-end Dell U2410 offers better color management with a wide gamut color space (102% NTSC), while this Dell U2412M has a standard gamut/sRGB (71% NTSC). Basically I was really shocked that the picture looked so good right out of the box and expected that I would take the time to calibrate it or tweak it a bit to improve the picture. Luckily this wasn't necessary. It's almost as if the monitor was calibrated at the factory. Of course, the picture on your monitor will be as good as your graphics card will allow, so make sure your PC has a high-end video/video card with the latest drivers. Since I use this monitor primarily for business, I use my stock quote system and Excel all day. One of the main considerations when purchasing this monitor was the higher screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 as I need to make the most of my screen real estate to display so much data and graphics in one place. simultaneously. This monitor is ideal for providing additional screen real estate. Most of my Excel spreadsheets are scaled down to 80% and the font size averages 8 to 10 points. Even when the worksheet is reduced to 80%, the 8-10 point font size remains crisp, clear and crisp. However, I made a change to how Windows handles font rendering. I used to use the default Windows font smoothing, which is probably the default. On this setting, the text is crisp and clear, but I found it a bit thin. So I changed the anti-aliasing to ClearType, which made the text a little fuller and darker, but still sharp and crisp. I prefer this setting on this higher resolution monitor. It's a matter of personal preference. Therefore, this monitor is ideal for investment managers, traders, technical chart analysts or financial analysts in general. It's also great for people who spend a lot of time on database applications. If you think you need a 27-inch monitor for this purpose, budget at least $1,000 for the same or better specs, features, and customization options for this 24-inch Dell U2412M. Do the extra 3 inches justify the big jump in price? However, a definite advantage of a larger monitor is the ability to run at an even higher resolution than this Dell, allowing for even more screen real estate. When you play video on this monitor, YouTube or another source will fill the full width of the screen, but you'll see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen because that's a higher resolution than a standard HD monitor, which is only 1920 x 1080 If you're watching a movie shot with widescreen anamorphic lenses (typically Panavision) with an aspect ratio of 2.39:1, or a movie shot with spherical lenses and resized to an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (Super 35 ) has been cropped, you will notice much larger black bars at the top and bottom of the screen than meets the eye. on a lower resolution monitor. The letterbox effect is more noticeable on this higher resolution monitor. This is not a minus; it's just the result of higher resolution. Movies shot with the best equipment (Panavision cameras and lenses) look stunning and sharp. Videos shot with a digital cinema camera and RED lenses or even better Panavision lenses also look amazing and clear. Movies shot in anamorphic mode look best with Panavision anamorphic lenses. Other widescreen anamorphic lenses don't seem as sharp and may show slight visual distortion, but that's most likely the quality of the lens and not the fault of the Dell monitor. YouTube videos shot with decent quality HD cameras also look sharp enough. Of course, most of them are unprofessional, so YouTube videos aren't the best estimate of the video image on this monitor. But for those creators who take a professional approach and know what they're doing, using high-end editing and color grading software like Final Cut Pro X, the images on this monitor look great. Of course, the video quality for DVD and Blu-ray also depends on the quality of the mastering of these discs. I'm not a big gamer so I haven't tested any video games on this monitor yet. I definitely recommend it. Monitor. If you are looking for an affordable 24-inch LED-backlit IPS panel LCD monitor with good viewing angles, this monitor is for you. If you need a monitor with a slightly higher brightness of 300 cd/m2 compared to the average brightness of 250 cd/m2 for this price range or below, then this monitor has you covered. If you need HDMI, this monitor doesn't have that connection. This wasn't a problem for me, so I can't turn down this monitor due to the lack of HDMI. If you need it, splurge with the more expensive Dell U2410. And if you buy this one, hopefully you'll get a monitor with an even distribution of brightness. All in all, the Dell U2412M monitor delivers a great picture for an IPS monitor at a reasonable price with lots of easy options to adjust the OSD should you find it necessary to adjust the picture. more to your liking G. Finally, the actual supplier of this monitor was WeSellForLess via Revain. You were a great seller. I just emailed explaining the problem with the monitor and they immediately emailed a replacement monitor and a return label for the original monitor. Everything was resolved clearly and quickly, without any problems. I've been shopping online for years and have never had to return anything for a refund or exchange. I think I'm lucky.
