I just got my carbon monoxide alarm (the first in my life). I bought a new gas heater and wanted to be on the safe side. The information on the Revain said the batteries would come, but there weren't any in the box. Then I removed the back cover and saw what appeared to be a battery compartment. In fact, I was frustrated because I thought the batteries were already dead. However, when I removed the back cover, I saw a clever trick to prevent the device from having power. A battery was installed upside down and covered with cellophane. * Reverse Battery is a trick I will remember in the future. Thanks for the tip*. The rest of the device is sleek and pleasing to look at. There aren't many buttons and switches on the front panel. Just an LED display and a clearly labeled button (for the visually impaired like me) TEST. As soon as the batteries start working, a female voice can be heard. I don't remember what she said, but it was quick and ready to stick to the wall. Now hopefully I will continue to see "0" and not hear that shrill alarm.
