Basic Split Palette All in One Box

Split Palette consists of the primary colors red, yellow and blue but is divided into warm and cool versions. good for sampling) and colors: Pyrrole Scarlet (warm red, replaces Cadmium Red.) Quinacridone Rose (cool red, replaces Alizarin Raspberry) Hansa Yellow Light (cool green-yellow, replaces Cadmium Lemon) New Gamboge (warm yellow, replaces Gamboge no longer manufactured ) French Ultramarine (warm blue, reddish) Phthalic Blue Green cast (GS cool, greenish Replaces the less stable Prussian Blue) Some Notes: New Gamboge leaked out of the tube, this is due to the chemical properties of the pigments and binders. The rest of the colors didn't bleed through. Phthalo Blue is a beautiful, almost turquoise blue and is VERY strong. It's pretty close to primary cyan. This will stain. It will not rise (come off the paper with water in the brush) very easily. But it's a great color. French Ultramarine is the only color that's among the oldest originals in the palettes, and it's a bit grainy. You can get any color by mixing these six; maybe add two more: Burnt Sienna (or Quinacridone Sienna) and either Yellow Ocher or Quinacridone Gold (warm, earthy gold) or Raw Sienna, a more transparent version of Yellow Ochre. Of the options, I prefer quinacridone and raw sienna, but that's your choice. These eight make up the perfect landscape palette. Pyrrol Red replaces Cadmium Red and is less opaque. I prefer it to old cadmium red, and I prefer hansa yellow to cadmium yellow or any other cadmium pigment. It's not a pity they're leaving.
