Inexpensive protection in case of resonator rupture
This is more of a decorative item than anything else. It allows you to eliminate the resonator. In doing some research on Duramax LLY diesel engines, I found that it was not uncommon for the resonator to rupture and bits of it to enter the engine through the turbocharger. This can lead to severe engine damage. So in my opinion this is a cheap defense in case the resonator starts to crack. I would recommend putting some grease or oil on the rubber o-rings to make installation easier. After buying the plug, I replaced the turbo mouthpiece and the plug is no longer needed.
