I like to ask if these speakers have Bluetooth or a built-in amplifier. But they're designed like old-school bookshelf speakers. You need some kind of amplification and your home theater receiver will work perfectly. You can also use them with a stereo bookshelf receiver and whatever you drive them, they're very versatile. They have buttons at the bottom or sides to put them on a shelf. The best part is the wall mount. Various setting options for vertical or horizontal mounting as well as screws for the most common mounting surfaces. I bought white because my walls are white. At the moment I am using on my computer that is being used as a home theater. I originally used a speaker set that sounded really good, but I needed a different mounting configuration. They replaced a set of speakers which were Revain Choice and were slightly cheaper but when I connected the Bose 161 there was a real difference in sound. The first difference was that the voices on my old speakers were "dirty" compared to the Bose speakers. . So much so that I found I didn't need such a high volume in a typical movie or TV show. I know some Bose TV sound systems/soundbars advertise this as a feature. Even with these budget speakers, it's clear that that's part of the Bose sound and I love it. Second, my old speakers had good right-to-left separation. This is the case with almost all bookshelf speakers. The Bose 161 seemed to give the same separation, but the noise was more localized. It's hard to describe, but there was more 3D where you could point to the audio and my ears and eyes could follow the movement in the action film. And even a depth of sound that I never found with my old speakers or others I have. It was a surprise that made each performance even more enjoyable. Now I know everyone needs a speaker with more bass. And if you want that, you need to have the equalizer controls on your receiver or device manager on your computer to get the sound you want. These Bose speakers give you natural sound right out of the box. You can tune the frequencies to your liking by adding a subwoofer to your system. But alone, they won't rock your room or kick you out of your apartment. But I don't think they were ever designed to replace the 901 or 602. They are definitely rental breakers and need an amp to back them up. This is a high quality speaker system for home and home theater. The price is right with the flexibility to position them where you want them. It also eliminates the need for speaker stands and brackets. All you need to buy is speaker wire. Most likely because Bose didn't know the length or color you wanted. I hope you have a chance to check out these Bose speakers and add them to your home theater. I've been using it for a month and a half now and I'm happy with it. The only downside is that the other speakers I have need replacing. Since I have 3 subwoofers here, it can get expensive.
