Review on πŸ”Œ M-D Building Products 4325 M-D 6-Foot Pipe Heating Cable by Jay Brock

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The plug indicator shows power, not heat.

So far so good. I've only had it installed a couple of weeks but wanted to post it as I think they are either sending out cables that are slightly different or maybe they have upgraded to a newer model. On reading the reviews, some reviews report that the lighted plug stays on all the time and some report that the light comes on when the cord gets very hot. On the cable I received this year (2016) the light is ALWAYS on and only seems to indicate that the circuit is complete and the cable is powered. To test my cable I put an ice pack on the thermostat and heard it turn on and heat up. I would recommend doing this test prior to installation to ensure you are not getting a bad cable. It's a lot easier to test before you install than to find out later that you have a problem and have to rip it out and put it back in. I plan to test it at least once a year by icing the thermostat. UPDATE - It's been a year since I bought and installed this cable. Before winter set in, I climbed back underground and removed the zip ties that held the thermostat in place to test it with an ice pack. Of course, once it had cooled sufficiently, I heard a slight click and the cable began to heat up. I reinstalled the thermostat with zip ties and climbed back out. I will do it again every year, but so far so good. UPDATE - just did an annual test (11/2020) and my cable is still working fine. Other than that, my wire is exactly the same as pictured here (orange on connector side, heat shrink on T-bar thermostat, black wire on heater side). I've read reviews and seen online that they now sell purple type flat cable heating cables and I have no experience with them.
