The thinner part of the HEPA filter is made of a different material than the original. The original material was more like a felt material, but this one is more like an extruded polyplastic. However, I noticed that they had really fine powder showing up in the vacuum container when it is usually fluffy and fibrous material (fluffy and fibrous material was also collected with fine powder). So I think this different material allowed for better suction and the fine powder that wasn't picked up by the original filters. But I found my throat tickling, so the dust is thrown out the other side. I recommend using the ones that offer stronger suction but less filtration to get that powdery dust out, and then switching to higher quality genuine felt materials that filter the air better but don't allow for much suction.
