If you're a DIY (DIY) guy like me, I highly recommend using this specialty tool to remove the oil filter housing. The old soft metal tools used to remove oil filters are not suitable for removing new plastic canisters with a replaceable paper filter. I have a 2010 Toyota Camry and decided to change the oil myself. Friends say it's much more convenient and cheaper to change the oil at a service center, but I've changed the oil on all my cars since my first '65 Chevy Impala and I won't change it now. The benefit of using this specialty tool is that it is a one piece piece with the protrusion fitting snugly into the socket. Grooves on the thick inner wall ensure that the tool does not slip off the canister or filter when there is sufficient torque. If you use a cheaper thin-walled tool to remove a filter or canister, the tool will tend to slip off, especially if high torque is applied when the filter or canister has been screwed on too tight. I've often noticed that service people don't turn away a quarter turn when changing the oil filter. You tighten them tight like you'll never change your oil again.
