My seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or seasonal depression started in high school. During the cold months, I just wasn't producing the same amount of serotonin as I normally would. Because I knew my SAD was a chemical production problem and not a receptor problem, I'm taking 5-HTP NOW to produce the same amount of happy chemicals as I do during the spring, summer, and fall. I love that it's a natural supplement and I know nurses and doctors trust NOW so I know I'm not adding weird things to my body. This is by no means a cure for depression, but if you're going through a depressive episode or if you suffer from seasonal depression, this supplement can help balance your mood a) until warmer/sunnier weather arrives or b) until your situation does not improve.
