I ordered two surge protectors to make a charging station for the class. To protect the phones from accidental tearing, I attached the strips to the table with Command Velcro. I also culled out plenty of iPhone and Android charging cables to loan to students who forgot, and regular wall outlets work well for those who remember. Just two strips provide outlets for 24 phones or devices, and to provide a good place for the phones we simply covered the two boxes that supplied the surge protection strips with some white thermoset stickers I left behind from another project I have a nice base, as shown. In this way, when the phone overheats, the stickers will change color and warn us. Overall it's good value for a fairly modest investment and so far students seem very happy with being able to safely charge their phones during class. . One student was particularly pleased with one of the 2.1 amp USB ports, which restored his phone from almost dead to almost full in just one lesson. I myself like it when there is a place to charge my phone and it's nice to be able to share it.
