Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Effortless CD/DVD Label Printing with Primera Signature Z1 Printer by Jason Flippen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Inexpensive alternative to CD labels

Not only is trying to stick a paper label on a CD is a chore, but if you fail the label can jam your CD mechanism . There are currently two types of CD/DVD printers: thermal and inkjet. Thermal printing has at least three advantages over inkjet printing. First, thermal printers are cheaper than inkjet printers. In addition, you don't have to use expensive "printable" CDs, thermal printers work great with the cheapest blank CDs. Finally, thermal printing is more durable and does not rub off as easily as inkjet printing. I chose this option over the Casio CW100 because the Primera prints in all 4 quadrants while the Casio only prints top and bottom. CD, no pages. Primera label design software is easy to use. I noticed that it's not exactly WYSIWYG, the printed text on the CD itself looks smaller than what one would expect on the design screen. The printed text was flat, giving the CDs a professional look. I was disappointed with the "graphics" function. Don't expect too much, with only one color and 200 dpi you'll have to simplify the graphics. Think rudimentary graphics on your monochrome 1980's IBM PC monitor - that's what you get. Another disadvantage is the very poor print quality on branded CDRs with the company logo engraved on the surface. The printing surface of the CDR should be as smooth as normal nameless CDRs. Overall I'm happy with my printer, it does exactly what I expected.
