Shark Bites: A Godsend for Plumbers

I have been a general contractor for several years and have never let a Shark Bite fitting fail when properly installed. Sometimes it makes sense to use copper fittings or PEX barb fittings when using PEX, and sometimes it makes sense to use Sharkbites. Almost 100% of the time I provide services to a client, it makes sense to use Sharkbites. The cost of making weld fittings is much more than the extra five or ten dollars to buy a Sharkbite fitting. I specifically used this fitting to install a Zoeller sump pump with a reserve Liberty Sump Jet sump pump for a customer. . When supplying the reserve pump with city water, the fitting worked perfectly. Pros: - In my experience, 0% failure rate when properly installed - Inexpensive in almost all situations - Fairly easy for unskilled people to do plumbing work (see cons below) Cons: - Inspires trust in unskilled professionals, which can result in a product with negative perception if installed incorrectly - using multiple fittings can be costly if you're doing the plumbing on your own property and not paying for the labor.
