Review on πŸ“» Cobra MR HH350W FLT Handheld Floating VHF Radio – Submersible, 6 Watt, LCD Display, Noise Cancelling Mic by Elvis Kimbro

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Decent radio for a weekend warrior.

In general this is a decent radio. I bought this VHF to carry on my PFD when kayaking in big lakes/coastal waters and to keep in touch with friends while cruising the river. So far it's holding up great. Just make sure you rinse off the salt spray after use, as you should with all your gear! The battery life is excellent. I always scan multiple channels and usually transmit at minimum power. After two full days of use, the battery indicator only dropped two bars. I didn't intentionally submerge it in water to test waterproofness, but I'm sure it will be fine. Everything seems to be tight. My only criticism of this device is that it can only be charged with the included charging cradle. It would have been nice if it had a USB B or C port so you could charge it with a portable power bank on multi-day trips. Overall I think this radio is of very high quality. It offers a lot of features, is light and compact. For the weekend user It fits perfectly and the price is great. However, if I was going to rely on a portable radio on a daily basis I would probably spend the money on a higher quality Icom or Standard Horizon as they are known for reliability and durability.

Pros
  • Seaworthy – The floating design and orange core make it easy to remove the radio if it falls overboard, while JIS7 (IPX7) compliance allows the radio to be used at depths of one meter below for up to 30 minutes to hold water.
Cons
  • So far so good
