Summary: A year ago my friend drove through a river crossing and her car stopped. It was about 40 outside and she was soaked to the skin in her robe. I let her put one in her purse and she wrapped herself in it for an hour, waiting for a tow truck. If she didn't have it, she would certainly get hypothermia and probably go to the emergency room. Wool and fleece blankets are great and cheaper, but they're big and take up space in your car. The thing is small and flat. Stash it under the driver's seat and forget about it until you're stuck on the side of the road without freezing in the back. Then wrap it in it like a baked potato. There's no reason not to have at least one in the car
