Works great on Linux, Standard Prolific PL2303

Works great on Linux, out of the box. It contains the Prolific PL2303 chip, like almost all others. First time works. This is a standard RS-232 serial port that operates at 115200 baud (the highest standard baud rate). I have not tested higher speeds. Haven't tested it on Windows or Mac. One caveat is that this requires the correct serial cable: either a "straight-through" serial cable or a "null-modem" serial cable, depending on the device. These two cabling standards are not compatible and cannot switch automatically, so which cable you choose is up to you! Buy one of each if you are unsure. The adapter has a 9-pin connector, so your serial cable must have a 9-pin connector (at least on one of its ends) or you won't be able to connect it. a useful LED on the adapter that lights up when data is being sent or received. ATEN is better known in the US as "Iogear". Most Iogear products will simply be renamed to ATEN products. Buy the cheapest at the moment, either ATEN or Iogear, they are the same! However, avoid buying an unnamed serial converter as there are fake Prolific PL2303 chips out there that are unreliable or just don't work. Although the USB to serial converter is a generic product, stick to well-known brands like ATEN or Iogear to avoid this.
