Review on πŸ”© Inch Massca Quick Clamp with Aluminum Construction by Joseph Hall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good clamping force, fine finish

This review is for 3 Massca clamps of two different types: Quick Gear and 6" and 12" (this) aluminum lever terminals . Ratchets differ between the two types, the main difference (for me) is that the Quick Gear pawl does not fully engage the ratchet. Having used these clamps for a few weeks this has not proved to be a problem in practice, although I'll have to wait and see if this is a durability issue. Despite concerns about the ratchet, I preferred the Quick Serrated Clamps. They are quicker to use and easier to align because one of the clamping surfaces is a steel pivot plate. Stronger clamping force too. In contrast, aluminum lever clamps have two soft clamping surfaces and, like all these clamps, tend to pull your work piece in one direction or the other depending on whether you accidentally tilt while clamping. Both are in game as pictured. There are many ways to clamp a piece like this, but attaching it to a narrow vertical piece illustrates the problem. After gluing, I started with an aluminum lever clamp. The detail immediately slipped off. I retuned, replaced the quick gear clip and it didn't move. I used aluminum toggle clamps in the remaining positions but first secured the part with a 23ga pin. The fit and finish of the Massca clamps is excellent. Beautiful shape and perfect painting. I had paint scratches on the bars for the first few uses, after that it stopped. Just a touch of lube on the steering wheel also helps, although it's not strictly necessary. I have a raft full of B***** and J** oar clamps but none of their F clamps as I think they will fit and get out. on those it's horrible for the money. I keep looking, but I keep giving up. Massca clamps are a worthy alternative to big stores and well-known clamps. I recommend.

Pros
  • Clamping force up to 660 lbs/300 kg
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
