Review on Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth Convertible Certified by Kelly Gonzalez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Almost ready for computers and accessories

I had a Plantronics Savi W745. Headset volume and mute became intermittent and I replaced it with an updated version of the Savi 8245. This had the benefit of verbally announcing mute status, but the mic was unstable. Everything was fine on my side, but sometimes others couldn't hear me even when I was in the same room as the base. Came back and bought a Voyager 4245. Pros: Sound quality is very good on transmit and receive - seems as good as the W745. Bluetooth allows the headset to be used with my cell phone in the car etc. - no base station required. The volume control and separate mute function work well, and the verbal mute prompt avoids ambiguity. Cons: Range is much less than DECT based W745, maybe around 100ft through 1 wall, 30ft cut if multiple walls - so can't be used in yard or through entire wall. A house. The range was up to 100 meters, but not really that much better than other Bluetooth devices. Because the base connects via Bluetooth, there can only be one additional Bluetooth device - it can't connect to a computer, phone and iPad at the same time - that's 1 fewer than the W745. Both models also allow you to connect a desk phone or other phone with a wired headset. The verbal "Mute" message is slow and the conversation sometimes resumes before I turn the volume off. USB socket for spare charger. All in all, a depot but working Savi 8245 would be better, at least for my use case.
